Auto Hide Body Under Clothes — Remove the hidden body polygons under your avatar's clothes [VRChat / Unity / AAO]

Description du produit

Auto Hide Body Under Clothes is a Unity editor extension that finds the body (base mesh) polygons hidden under your avatar's clothes. Click "Find body under clothes" to see them in the Scene view. The Full version then creates an Avatar Optimizer (AAO, free) "Remove Mesh By Mask" setup and its mask images in one click, so those polygons are removed at build/upload time — no hand-painting masks. Original meshes and textures are not modified. Undo the setup with Ctrl+Z (generated mask images stay). This tool does not fit, resize or reshape clothes, and does not fix clipping from misaligned clothes.

No avatars, clothes or Avatar Optimizer are included (tool only).

Free vs Full

  • Free: detect and preview the hidden body areas, with polygon counts.
  • Full: also creates the AAO setup and mask images, with detection settings (gap, clipping depth, border to keep, include clipping).

Try the Free version on your own avatar first to see how much can be removed. Importing the Full version over the Free version replaces it.

Tested before release

Made by Kotokoto Lab, an independent creator. This version was tested on 3 popular free avatars plus the chibi version of one of them, each wearing its own bundled clothes. After the upload-time processing (Modular Avatar / Avatar Optimizer), polygons went from 55,043 to 44,620 (-19%), 75,415 to 71,422 (-5%), 118,851 to 109,298 (-8%), and 53,307 to 52,973 (-0.6%, chibi). Compared with the same camera before and after removal in 3 poses (arms down and bent, arms raised with a twisted body, sitting with legs raised), less than 1% of the avatar's pixels changed; the most was 0.92%, around a skirt hem when sitting.

Where it does not work well: when a skirt lifts (e.g. sitting), the removed skin under it can show as a gap; a larger border reduces this. Looking into a sleeve along the arm shows it empty inside. Clipping candidates are kept by default. Body vertices mainly skinned to the head and its child bones (face, eyes, mouth) are not removed. If the body already has Remove Mesh By Mask, nothing is overwritten. Bodies with mirrored (shared) UVs may remove fewer polygons than detected. Run detection again after changing the avatar, clothes or pose. Clothes converted from other avatars were not tested; fit misaligned clothes first. See-through clothes, clothes with holes, and clothes far from the body may remove too little or too much. Use it on a duplicate of your avatar.

Requirements

Unity 2022.3 (tested on 2022.3.22f1). The Full version needs Avatar Optimizer to create the setup (tested with 1.9.20).

How to install

  1. Download the .unitypackage (Free or Full) and drag it into the Project window, then click Import.
  2. Open Tools > Auto Hide Body Under Clothes. The window has an "English" checkbox at the top.

Terms

OK for personal and commercial use. Do not redistribute or resell the tool. Follow each creator's terms for avatars and clothes (check whether removing body polygons is allowed as a modification). Use at your own risk; back up important projects first.
