This one is a flowering cherry. Layered, double-flowered blossoms cover the canopy in a

dense, rounded mass, set against a thick, aged-looking trunk. That contrast - the soft

crowd of blossoms against the solid old wood - is the point of this piece. It is named

"Hanagumo" (flower cloud), an old poetic word for cherry blossoms in full bloom seen as

a cloud in the distance.
