Grim Protogen - The Hand

"Among the Primus Empire, the Protogen is the greatest tool ever invented. Vast armies of clones, genetically engineered and cybernetically modified to fill every responsibility the ruling Mechanica could ever desire. The most prolific of these clones are The Hand, reliable and healthy clones designed to fit into any civilian role or job. Miners, doctors, couriers, paper-pushers, or even farmers. Without the Hand, the Primus Empire and the Mechanica would not be nearly as profitable or strong."

Ever heard that protogens were made for war? Then why do they look like *that*?

I wanted to correct this. This is my take on a darker sci-fi protogen, where protogens are clones made by the Mechanica (or the Primagen) where they are enslaved to work away at inhospitable environments and situations. Each protogen comes from a different Clone Family, or a base template all members of the family are cloned off of. All protogens are modified in ways to keep them dependent on their masters, where they remain as an exploited work-force, thrown carelessly at problems by their psychopathic overlords. Some are made to suffer, others are made to keep their clone cousins in line. To be a protogen is to be a tool of manufacturing, a weapon of war, a cattle of commerce. It is an undesirable life, but hope may yet remain with the growing fractures in the Empire...
